Bully’s Halfway House — Puttin’ On the Feedbag Post Swamp Tour: A Simple Louisiana Restaurant

Watching the swamp tour captain feeding all dem smelly chicken parts to dem gators made us all hongry, yeah. So I asked the captain where would be a good place to eat close by and, please, don’t tell me the famous restaurant on the way to Hammond, that shall remain nameless, whose quality has gone down since it changed hands.

He told us Bully’s Half Way House just up the road to La Place on Highway 51. So we all piled into the van, my cousins and me, and high-tailed it on over there. It’s a fairly nondescript place adorned with signs on an empty parking lot.

We walked into the funky bar and the woman barkeep directed us into the very plain dining room which had about ten tables. It was standard south Louisiana fair with your oysters and fish and crawfish and the like. A lot of it fried but they also offered grilled fish choices as well.

The quality was good and most of it was delicious and prices were good too. We complemented our waitress and told her that it was much better than that famous restaurant down the road. She seemed surprised and smiled like no one had ever said that before. “Well, thank you. I’ll tell the cook,” she said.

I would give the food ♦ ♦ ♦ stars and the funky down-home Louisiana ambiance ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ stars. So altogether I would give Bully’s Halfway House ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ stars.
