Nine Great New Orleans Restaurants – (Slideshow)

Here are what I think are the nine best New Orleans restaurants. I considered the mix of great food, good atmosphere and a classic New Orleans feel when choosing them. I put them in this slideshow below.

Antoine's
Arnauds
Bayona
CameliaGrill
Commanders Palace
Dooky Chase
Galatoire's
Mothers Restaurant
Napoleon House

Antoine's

Perhaps the oldest in the city, this restaurant, started in 1840, is deep in the French Quarter between Royal and Bourbon Streets. This is where Oysters Rockefeller was invented and still serves great Creole New Orleans food.

Arnauds

This classic restaurant is just steps from Bourbon Street but a world away with an elegant dining room and quintessential New Orleans food.

Bayona

Also in the Quarter I had the most memorable meal of my life at this restaurant and chef Susan Spicer is one of the most popular chefs in the city. Reasonable prices for such a classy place.

CameliaGrill

Although there is now one in the French Quarter, the original spot is found uptown right off the St. Charles Ave. streetcar line. Great breakfasts all day, great burgers and great fun.

Commanders Palace

Found in the Garden District this world famous restaurant owned by the Brennan family serves classic New Orleans food with a modern twist. This is where chef Emeril Lagasse got his start.

Dooky Chase

The famous and beloved Mrs. Chase is a legend and her restaurant is a popular place for presidents to go to sample some of the best New Orleans has to offer. Bread pudding is one of her specialties.

Galatoire's

The best of the best now over 100 years old still serves the same dishes they served when it first opened. The gumbo and the trout menieure some of the best in the city

Mothers Restaurant

Found on Poydras Street in the Central Business District this restaurant has been serving up classic Crescent City fare for decades. The long lines attest to the quality of the food.

Napoleon House

Found in the French Quarter this is one of my favorite places to eat. Great New Orleans food at great prices and great drinks. Nice patio and easy-going atmosphere.
