Celebration in the Oaks in New Orleans City Park has been going on for many years now. And it just seems to get better and better. I remember originally it was just a drive through the oaks in the park festooned with Christmas lights and holiday figures. That was pretty nice.

Then someone got the idea to make it a walking tour through Storyland, the amusement park and rose gardens. And what a bright idea it was! They seem to add more displays every year and it just seems to get more and more spectacular.
My favorite things to do are strolling through the model train exhibition, gazing at the wonderful dripping lights in the magnificent oaks that’s the center of it all, watching the Cajun Night Before Christmas light show, staring in awe at the giant poinsettia Christmas tree and, of course, visiting Mr. Bingle, .
This year we rode on the merry-go-round, an historic ride that was built in 1906. I was amazed at how fast it went and you almost get the sense that you are really riding on a horse… well, almost.
Celebration in the Oaks is on my list as one of the top things to do in New Orleans at Christmastime. And now with the recent opening of the Morning Call Coffee Stand at the casino building in City Park we were able to finish off the evening with a nice hot cup of coffee to help take the lovely winter chill out of our bones.
