After the city winning all kinds of tourism awards Conde Nast Traveler says New Orleans is fast becoming a tourist destination. Huh? Gee, that’s surprising that they finally figured that out after all these years, the Crescent City being one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
In fact the Big Easy has been a top tourist destination for a couple hundred years, I’d say. Wouldn’t you?
Conde Nast: Clueless About New Orleans?
An article on the WWL-TV website continues:
Kelly Schulz, with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, finds that a bit strange.
“Because we believe that we have been one of the top tourist destinations for many, many decades.”
She says the city has won more than a dozen top travel awards already this year, and has always been a top tourism choice.
Conde Nast Traveler announced this week that New Orleans placed #8 in the Top 10 Cities in the United States in their 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. More than 46,000 readers, mostly made up of frequent travelers and travel trend-setters, voted in this year’s poll.
“The Big Easy is quickly becoming a major tourist destination, having secured a spot on our list of Top 10 Cities in the United States for the first time in ages,” said the magazine. “After a few years in flux, New Orleans is becoming ‘a magical city.’ It also doesn’t hurt that our readers believe that they have ‘the best food in the U.S.’, with live music around every corner.”
It’s nice that we got noticed again from an important magazine but it seems to me whoever wrote this piece either has never been to New Orleans or is new to the game or both. Anyway, this is sort of a strange compliment but we’ll survive it like every other misrepresentation that comes our way.
