New Orleans Jazz Fest: 40 Years of Festivaling

Jazz Fest has come and gone and leaves behind the warm glow resulting from good food, good music, good dancin’, and good fun. I only got to go for one day this year. I usually go on one day each weekend but the first weekend found me in Mobile, Alabama for a Spring Hill College Homecoming.

Saturday of the second weekend was my day to festivalize. The plan was to get there early, find a good parking spot and have some coffee and then walk to the fest as the gates opened.  Seems like others had the same idea.

But we were lucky though to find a spot a block from the CC’s on Esplanade. And we were doubly lucky to find that the the world famous Cajun band Beausoleil was giving a free concert right outside in the patio. I figured that was a good omen of things to come.

We got into the gates at 11:00, heard a little bit in the Jazz tent, went over to Fais Do Do and danced to Feufollet, the young cajun band that started playing as teenagers only a few years ago at the fest.

The food booths were packed but I always manage to find the booths with great food and small lines.

The temperature was perfect, skies were blue and I it seemed like there must’ve been over 100,000 people there.
